It's been awhile since I've written, not because I haven't thought about it, but what do you say when your journey is complete? My time as a surrogate ended, the miracle my intended parents call "Little A" has actually grown into a handsome six-month old little guy already. Yes, I said six months!
At times I really wish I were still pregnant with Little A. My pregnancy went exceptionally well, and I could not have asked for better intended parents. I was watching a few old videos on my phone the other day - it was Little A moving all around and kicking from the inside out. He always had a good way of reminding me that he was "hanging around".
Other times I am glad I am back to what one would call my normal life. The daily routines of motherhood, school teacher, friend, volunteer and roller derby skater. Each one of these rolls are just important to me as being a surrogate mother.
That is why I've chosen to begin a second journey! My intended parents would like to have a sibling for Little A! I am so fortunate to continue working with them and helping them expand their beautiful family. We updated the contract a little, I've gone to Rockford, IL to have my medical clearance and now we will wait for the IVF nurse to contact me with a plan, along with a finalized contract. It is definitely much easier the second time around!
The intended parents have embryos frozen, so they RE will thaw two of them in October for our possible transfer and if all goes well Little A will become a big brother in 2013.
Every time I think about them, their family, my heart skips! I am blessed to be a part of their journey to parenthood.
Much love

10 weeks 2 days
Today we used Skype to see Little A and his proud papa. Little A's papa keeps trying to comb his hair over so it doesn't stick up, but it still does! I absolutely love his "rockstar" hair!
Little A was wide awake and smiling so much. He talked to us - ok, it really is just cooing, but I think he was talking. Papa says Little A loves to listen to music. He has a few he really likes. He also likes to play with his little zebra. It's a bright, colored stuff toy that hangs above him or next to him - he just started grabbing for it last week.
Little A loves his hands too! It's not just his fingers he likes either, he likes to stick his entire fist into his mouth. I'm sure it'll be soon and he'll be sticking more than just his fist. Before long and he'll be eating foods.
Little A has grown so much. He is already 60 cm (which I believe is about 25 inches); this means he's grown 5 inches already! He does look very tall for his young age.
Little A's papa returns to work on Monday. He is not looking forward to being away from Little A, but is relieved to have found a nanny that really loves children. I'm sure he will use the iPhone to communicate frequently with her and Little A.
We will definitely Skype again sooner and hopefully more often. We sure miss them all!

Happy Two Months!
Looking back, I cannot believe two months have passed since I gave birth to my little surrogate son, Alexandre. I have a lot of questions for his parents, but never want to seem to nosey - it's my curiousity that kills me some days. Although, I don't get to see him or hold him, I am very fortunate that my IPs still keep us connected through emails, pictures and videos. The videos are really the best because my family and I can see him wiggle around, "talk", and discover the new world around him.
My DH and I are starting a French conversational class soon. I am especially excited because I've always wanted to speak French and it will help build a different relationship with my IPs and Little A. Classes start April 2.
Alexandre and his parents are thought of each day...they'll always have a special place in my heart.

Final Days in Iowa
Since the delivery a lot has happened. My IPs and grandmother spent two weeks living in Iowa and getting used to their new bundle of joy. During that time, we visited often and really learned so much about each other. They had so many things to do before returning to France - a trip to Madison to meet with our agency and for one IP to return to France early. On their trip they stopped in a small town, Cuba City, and took pictures because that is where I was born! Too cute :) After their return, they still needed to get Little A's passport. This meant a trip to Chicago mid-week. Thankfully everything went well and Little A was now ready to fly overseas to his home.
We had only one more night to spend together. We relaxed and ate our favorite pizza, Happy Joe's, with them at the hotel. I held Little A while I ate, because I knew after tomorrow it would be months or years from now that I would hug or hold him again. I cherished every moment. He is so handsome and sweet. I just love the smell of babies and their so-soft skin.
On Friday, February 3rd the newest addition to their family would be flying to Paris for the first time. We met the family at the airport. I had packaged 7000 mL of breast milk for them to take with - this was my gift to Alexandre. I want him to be as healthy as possible, so his parents don't have to worry!
I couldn't believe how many pieces of luggage they had between the three of them! They were large suitcases too. Once they were all checked in and had baggage scanned we sat, held Little, and chatted with them. Of course I knew they were ready to return to France after being here for one month, but at the same time I wished they could stay. As I said before, we'd really learned a lot about them, we experienced the delivery and birth of a beautiful baby boy together, and now they would be thousands of miles away and living on another continent.
It would be absurd of me to say that I was not emotional. I held my tears back for as long as I could, but once they started to go through the check-in gate it was much more difficult.
I wasn't crying because I was sad, I was crying because it happened.
There was a little hiccup in their departure. Little A needed a boarding pass, so this gave my family more time to see Little A and his grandmother. She was so sweet the entire time she visited Iowa. I do believe she began to enjoy Iowa but was definitely ready to go home. My daughters really adored her too.
Finally, it was time to leave. They went through the gates and my IP had to be scanned! Of course it must have been because he looks like a terrorist! Really?!? He does not, but I think if you are carrying a two-week old child with you, you probably have explosives in the car seat!
We waved our final waves and blew our last kisses...au revoir bon petit A une famille

It's a BIRTH day!!!
Thursday, January 19, 2012
5:45 AM
The day started out as usual, a shower, a little breakfast, oatmeal because I didn't want to throw antyhing up later. Then the rest of my house rose from their sleep. My DH was going to stay home and get the girls off to school as I drove myself and Little A to the hospital to get checked in.
7:00 AM
It is freezing outside! I entered our birthing center and checked in at the front desk. I was taken back to room 1172 and given my wonderful "gown". I put my things away in a closet, dressed in the beautiful blue back-tie gown and waited for my nurse. She was in the room within a few minutes. Her name was Jen. It was a bit ironic because the last time I was here, delivering my daughter, all the nurses names were Jen, Jenna, or Jenny.
Today, Jen had a post-partum nurse named Bridget, shadowing her because she is moving to Labor & Delivery. Both women were very young and very nice throughout the check-in process. The hospital did not receive my pre-registration, so I had to answer all the medical questions and such. During this time, my DH arrived too. He had to meet Grammy in the parking lot because our youngest wasn't moving very fast that day. She didn't really want to go to school.
Dr. V arrived to check my cervix at 7:30 AM. Sadly, not much had changed. When he shared this information I was completely let down. I knew then that I'd probably have to have Pitocin today. Not exactly what I hoped for.
He decided he would try to break my bag of waters. The long hook was yellow and made of plastic. He tried to get it into the right spot to pop the water, but it did not work. He asked Jen to get him a baby head monitor. This has a hook on it that attaches to the baby's head and monitors the heart rate. Dr. V knew if he could get that in there then the bag would be broke, even a little. That was a success! Little A's heart rate came up on the monitors and he was doing well.
Afterwards, I called my IPs as they were waiting at their hotel. They said they would come to the hospital around 9:00 AM. I was excited for them, because the birthing center was not busy so they would be able to have their own room to share with Little A.
Dr. V and Jen said I could walk the halls. After he left, my DH and I got up and started to walk the three different halls. We walked and walked...and walked...and walked some more.
9:15 am
My IPs arrived and we greeted them. There was so much excitement and "nervousness" in the air. They were absolutely cute...as was the grandmother.
9:45 am
They sat near my hospital room as Jen checked me again - still nothing, no real change. Oh my! You've got to be kidding me!!!
She let Dr. V know and he said I could continue walking but by noon if nothing changes, then it'll be time for Pitocin.
Jen and I joked around a lot that morning because she really wanted to start an IV line and I did not want her to. I do not like having needles in my hand, not one bit! She was so nice and said she'd wait until we were closer to "Pitocin time". She and Bridget did other tasks while my DH and I walked the halls. They brought in meds for emergency situations; they brought the baby bed warmer in; the scale; a couple of different cans for delivery (blood and towels).
My DH and I talked as we walked. I even did some squats. I kept suggesting that if I could put my skates on that I would go into labor or if I could walk the stairs, but no, no one would let me do either. The stairs were off limits - only use in case of emergency! Well, not being in labor 8 days over - is an emergency!!!
My IPs & grandmother were finally showed their room. Of course they were just happy, after two weeks of waiting in the United States, that today they would finally meet Little A. The biological IP was so nervous, he was pacing the hall a bit too...so sweet.
11:45 am
We were quickly approaching the "Pitocin hour". Jen wanted me to return to the room at 11:45 to get everything started. She checked me and then called Dr. V. He came to check too - still not much, but a little...almost to 3 cm and 80% now! WOOT!!! Oh no...still have to get Pitocin started.
Dr. V left and let Jen and Bridget do their job. Jen carefully put the IV in my left hand to begin the Pitocin on its lowest level. It actually wasn't too bad. Thank you Jen! Since I would be hooked up to the IV, I would not be able to leave the room. Instead I sat and stretched for about an hour on a yoga ball shaped like a kidney. My DH and I sat there watching the news. Nothing seemed to be happening. Little A's heart rate sounded like a ping-pong ball bounding on the table. It was strong!
1:00 pm
The hour went by fast and it was time for Jen to call Dr. V again. He instructed her to increase the Pitocin. Oh boy! Maybe this would help.
It was 1:00 and within ten minutes I was having consistent contractions that were strong. I continued to sit on the ball. After many contractions, Jen kept asking me how I was doing ona scale of 1 -10. They were definitely getting to be a little unbearable, but I was still hanging in there. I did not want to have an epidural, so I was trying to focus. My DH had put in the cd I brought, Adele. She has such a soothing voice and I knew if I could listen to her it would help calm me.
2:00 pm
By 2:00, I was standing and rocking my hips at the end of my bed. I had my DH push his balled up hand into my lower back to relieve some pressure. My DH, Jen, Bridget and I could tell that the contractions were extremely intense. The monitor measures them and when I first got the Pitocin they were only at 25 or so, but now after 2:00 most of my contractions were over 110! There were a few that were off the charts!
Jen asked me again if I wanted an epidural. It was about 2:15 pm and I finally said, "Yes, if this is how these contractions are going to be...yes." She went ahead and called to get the anethisiologist ready. She also called Dr. V to let him know where I was and that I'd be getting the epidural. I was at a 3 and 80% for her too - but she said it was still ok to get the epidural. She did get the ok to give me a shot of pain relief while we waited for the epidural.
I had been laying on the bed at this point and suddenly was not feeling the same. There was so much pain in my lower region, so Jen checked me again.
Jen was right! She kept telling me that women who are on their 3+ delivery tend to go quickly and she said maybe I was a "secret" dialator! LOL
In that ten minutes, I went from being 3 cm/80% to fully dilated and READY to deliver! There would not be time for an epidural now.
TEN MINUTES!!!
After that, things started happening quickly. Jen was on the phone to Dr. V - he was on his way! Extra nurses arrived, the bed was pulled apart, I felt like I had to push NOW!
I'm not sure what my IPs were thinking at this point, because they were all still in the hallway. Only one of them wanted to be in the room for delivery so between two contractions, I said, "Someone needs to get E!" I did not want him to miss the delivery of his son.
I don't know if he came in before Dr. V or not, but I recall Jen saying he's just a few minutes Jeannie, don't push...breathe with me, blow it out...Jen kept me focused...as much as she could.
Once Dr. V arrived I was more than ready to deliver Little A. I sat up and pushed once - and screamed so loud! He was coming out quickly and I could feel everything. Stop...breathe, blow it out...ok, Jeannie push his shoulders out. Again...a push and a scream.
Little A arrived! It was 2:56 pm on January 19, 2012.
E cut Little A's cord and he was placed in the warming bed to get tested for his APGAR score.
I could hear Little A just a little over all the other noises in the room. I was really trying to watch E with his son - he was taking some pictures of him in the bed.
It was all over; the pain was gone, no more contractions...the only thing left for me was to deliver the placenta. Dr. V massaged and worked at it for approximately 10 minutes. Everything with the delivery went well.
Little Alexandre was gorgeous!
He was born with a full head of dark hair.
A small baby - 7lbs 13 oz, 21 inches long.
My other IP and grandmother came into the room to see him. Everything was so surreal - here he was, the child we'd all been anxiously waiting for...he has made them a family.
As for me, I cannot express in words how the moment I saw them holding their son made me feel. It was extraordinary!
Much love...always to Little Alexandre, his parents and grandmother

TWO MORE DAYS - 1/17/12
That's right...almost 41 weeks pregnant and ONE more doctor's appointment to finally decide on when Little A would be born.
Of course I made my appointment for the morning, I do not like waiting until the end of the day for such special news. My nurse Tanya called my name and of course she is just as surprised as the rest of us that this little one hasn't arrived. We went through our routine: weight, blood pressure, urine, heart rate...etc. Once she and I were in the exam room we started talking about how much I really do not want Pitocin, but more how I did not want to have a c-section. Of course I got teary-eyed talking about the possibility of having surgery. I know many women have them everyday, but I did not want to add that to my list of accomplishments. She reassured me no matter what happens, everything will be ok.
Dr. V came into the room shortly after speaking to Tanya in the hallway. I overheard her telling him about my fears. They came into the room and immediately listened to Little A's heartbeat. Dr. V usually just estimates how fast his heart rate is, but today he took out his cell phone to time it...because it was not as fast as normal. Phew! Little A was still beating around 120 bpm, so everything was good.
The next step of my exam...checking for cervical dilation and effacement. As I'm laying there, all I could think of was please, please let my body show some signs that we are ready to deliver this little miracle. Sadly, there hadn't been much change since last week! Really?!?!
NOW WHAT???
Dr. V told me to go ahead and get dressed and he'd be back in a minute after he gives the next steps some thought. Upon his return he had a plan - two more days! Two more days before he'd induce me. He was hopeful that checking me today would help. I guess we'll wait and see.
Tanya called the hospital to let them know I would arrive on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 7 AM to begin my induction.
Induction plan: Break my bag of waters (hopefully) and then Pitocin if needed.
I left the office knowing Little A would finally arrive in two days, really what was two more?

Since the Shock is Over
Yesterday I went to my 40-week appointment. The nurse went through her normal routine: urine check (good), blood pressure 115/72 (good) my heart rate 96 bpm (high - wow!), weight - I've lost 2 pounds (great).
Then into the exam room to get undressed from the waist down and wait for the doctor to come in for his portion of my check up. I laid down on my back, which is very uncomfortable, and he examined my belly feeling for Little A. He is still in place for delivery, yay! Dr. V measured my pregnant belly and instead of asking the size, I said, "So do you think he is still going to be 8 pounds?" His response, "How big was your largest baby?" Hmm...I thought, "She was 9 lbs. 10 oz, why?" "Well at least we know you can deliver a larger baby. I think this one may be closer to 9 lbs." That's what I figured! At least my IPs won't have a little bitty baby that they'll be scared of - I know when I had my first child at 9 lbs 6 oz, it was nice because I wasn't scared I'd break him!
He also checked Little A's heart beat and it was in the 150s - thumping right along.
The next part of the exam most women are anxious for and today was definitely one of those days. Since last week, there was not much "action" going on to help with labor and delivery I really had my fingers crossed that I'd be at least 3 cm dilated and the doctor would deliver good news, like having a baby by week's end.
Well the nurse came back in and he began the exam - it's not pleasant at all, but necessary...so he's poking around, checking to see if my cervix has effaced and dilated. "About 1.5 cm and still about the same for effacement." Nurse T knows what that means and she could see the disappointment in my face, boo! How frustrating!
I sat up and we discussed our options. Since I am not dilated to at least 3 or 4 cm, he wouldn't be able to break my bag of waters - this didn't leave any options. Wait...Wait...Wait...and Wait some more.
I have another appointment set for Tuesday, January 17 in the early morning and if I make it to that appointment that means we'll have to use medication or other methods to deliver Little A on Wednesday, January 18 (a week over).
I've never gone more than 4 days over due, so I am anxiously waiting the "sign" that I've had with my three children - the "show". I know it doesn't happen every time, but with me it does and within 24 hours I give birth. I say, "BRING IT ON!!!"
Of course as I'm walking to my car, all I could think of was my IPs and how long they've been waiting...and now it would be more waiting. I got into my car and started to cry...There's nothing I can do, but deliver them a healthy baby boy.
Little A it's time to come out and greet 2012 already!
Then into the exam room to get undressed from the waist down and wait for the doctor to come in for his portion of my check up. 39 weeks + 3 days...
We are definitely approaching the due date now! Wow - I can't believe Little A is almost here. Well, actually I can but it really does not seem likes it has been nine months.
I've really been blessed during this pregnancy. Everything has gone the way it should, Little A has been healthy and so have I. Let's just pray the delivery is smooth too.
One of my IPs brought his mother to our home on Thursday evening. They brought me the most beautiful red roses. Grandma or "Grand-mere" speaks French only, so my IP had to do all the translating. It was a wonderful visit with them - many pictures of my protruding belly were taken.
Tonight my other IP arrives from France. I'm glad Little A is waiting for his arrival too!

After the 39 Week Doctor Appointment...
Feeling a little, um let's say, discouraged. *sigh*
I know it is not the due date today, but we are only a week away and the doctor said there has been progression since the last "check" at 36 weeks, but I am not really dilated. I am about 3/4 the way effaced - which is good, but also neither are perfect predictors of when I will deliver.
On the good side - everything still looks good. Heartbeat was about 140 today! I am measuring only 37 weeks, so according to the doctor is a good thing because that means he is engaging more into the pelvic region (hence all the pressure I am feeling).
My sister did remind me the other day that I typically go to my due date - actually OVER!!!
We will see...until week 40.

38 weeks...
I cannot believe I forgot to update last Wednesday! Technically, today we are 39 weeks into this pregnancy and still have NO baby to show for it! Well we have a baby, but he's turned into a large watermelon!!!
Last week's appointment was boring - no cervix check, but that was because I was not feeling many contractions. What's a girl to do? Of course I've read about all the ways to induce labor and nothing is guaranteed so why put yourself through a drink of castor oil? Not me!
Besides, my intended parents were still in France so I definitley need to bake Little A until January 8th when they'll both be in the United States.
Little A's heartbeat was in the 130s. I am not sure what I was measuring, I didn't ask - I feel gigantice! Everything the nurse tested on me was fine; although my blood pressure seemed a little high for me: 129/77. No worries from the nurse or doctor though!
My doctor reminded me again of three things: Go to the hospital if my water breaks; if my contractions are close together (5 minutes); and go to the hospital if I am not feeling Little A move around.
Until next week, right?
Nope...so that night, after my appointment I became very ill. I believe I had food poisoning!!! A sudden onset of puking and y'know, the other! My thought while puking was, "I am going to puke so profusely that my water is going to break!" HA HA
Then on Thursday I couldn't eat or drink hardly anything. Three pieces of toast and a little bit of sprite got me through the day - and A LOT of sleeping. I had chills all day long too. I was definitely dehydrated, but tried to keep as much fluid going in me that was coming out.
By Friday, I was feeling better, but not 100% until Saturday. I never called my doctor - I thought if I would've continued to feel bad on Friday I would have, but things turned around. Besides who wants to be put on bed rest in a hospital? Not me!
I am back to work this week, teaching my high school kiddos. Many of them were excited to see me return yesterday, because they were unsure if I would be here or not. I plan to make it through Friday, but will not return on Monday, January 9.
Today is the 39 week appointment. Let's see if anything has progressed and what my doctor thinks will happen!
Here's to Little A's approaching arrival :)

37 Weeks...

The past week has flown by - we've been really busy with our oldest child, Nathan, returning from the Air Force and celebrating one family Christmas.
Little A continues to wiggle around and kick me suddenly. I hope that I'll be able to see the outline of his foot before he makes his debut.
We had another check-up today. It's weekly now, but the nurse and doctor continue to test the same things: BP - 117/72; heart rate 83 (mine); weight gained 1.4 lbs (holiday cookies); tummy measurement: 37 cm; Little A's heart rate 130s.
Dr. V is predicting Little A will weigh in the 8 lb range :) This makes me happy because my first two children were 9+ pounders, but my last was only 8 lbs 5 oz and she was much easier to deliver. Of course he said this could quickly change, let's hope not!
One of my derby sisters is a photographer and I had her take some belly shots for me. I've always wanted pictures taken during pregnancy but never had the opportunity. She took them about a week ago and we had so much fun! The pictures will definitely be cherished by me.

28 Days until D-Day!!!
Just back from my 36-week doctor appointment. Here's the lowdown:
Total weight gain: 32 lbs (none since the 34 week appointment)
Blood pressure: 117/77 - yay!
My heart rate: 93 bpm (asked the nurse if this was normal and she said, "Yes," - I was just curious since my heart rate is usually much lower)
Little A's heart rate: 150 bpm (active guy this morning!)
Tummy measurement: 36 cm - right on!!!
Cervix: no dilation yet - which is good :) We don't want Little A to arrive before his parents!
Urine test: a little sugar again (same at 34 weeks). Dr. V asked what I ate this morning - just Raisin Bran, not a vanilla shake like the last time. He looked at my other blood work I had done a few weeks ago, and has decided he's not concerned with a little bit of sugar.
We talked about my last delivery and looked at the calendar again to see when January 11th falls. Dr. V is not predicting Little A's arrival before 39 weeks for sure, but just in case he gave me his personal cell phone number. How nice is that!!!
He continued by reminding me if I do have multiple contractions that are close together and painful...to go to the hospital. Then, he reminded me if my water breaks or starts to leak, or even if I think it could be...to go to the hospital. So, at this point if anything does start to happen...to go to the hospital and be sure. Since we are 4 weeks away from D-Day, he would not stop labor. Little A would be strong enough to survive outside his room/womb.
From here on out, I'll be visiting with Dr. V every week. Basically we'll go through all the routine checks and then in 2 or 3 weeks he'll check my cervix again to see if we're any closer to delivery.
Until next time...

32 Weeks!
Yesterday was our 32-week mark, so excited! I had the doctor appointment and everything is looking good. Blood pressure was low, only gained 1 lb (secretly so happy), urine tests were clear, and Little A's heartbeat was 130 bpm. During the heartbeat exam, Dr.V was kicked by Little A! It was so cute :) Little A really doesn't seem to like it when I lay on my back, so he is always moving when I do this - and Dr. V put the monitor on my belly and wallop! Little A got him good!
Dr. V did prescribe different antibiotics for me. I have been fighting bronchitis this week and the first one wasn't helping. After taking two pills after my appointment, I am already noticing the difference.
There weren't any surprise tests this time. I was thankful for that but in 4 weeks we will do a culture test and check my cervix to see if there's any "action" going on. Since this will be my fourth child to deliver, I am curious as to what the outcome will be as we get closer to D-day.
The next appointment: November 30th

Clogged Up
It's Little A again. I'm starting to feel bad for Ms. Goldilocks. She wasn't sleeping much before, because I like to roll around in the middle of the night and bounce on her bladder. But now, now she's got a head cold too! Poor thing. She has been sleeping on the couch for the past couple of nights in hopes to get better rest. This way she sits up. I didn't realize she was sleeping there until last night, so I decided to be as cooperative as I could last night and rest too. I kept my kicking, punching, and rolling around to a minimum. I think she slept better but I know she still feels icky today.
Hopefully with the weekend approaching she'll get more rest and get to feeling better.
Now to me...did you know that I am over 3 pounds now? And that I am almost 17 inches long? Yes, so that means I don't have much room in the home I am currently in. I keep trying to wiggle around, but sometimes my silly legs get in the way and I can't flip over! When this happens I just kick, kick, kick!!!
I overheard Ms. Goldilocks talking to someone yesterday. She said, "Only 9 more weeks!" Wait! What? What does that mean? 9 more weeks until what? I am so confused. I really like my room - it's nice and warm and I have this wet stuff to drink everyday. She does talk about the "daddies" - I know she just means, "my daddies" - I can't wait to meet them! I bet they have a nice room for me too.
Goodnight...time to rest

Time Flies
Here we are...week 30 starts tomorrow!
I am not sure how we got this far so quickly, but I am getting more and more excited for Little A's arrival. He's coming into the world filled with love and joy - his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. He'll definitely be spoiled.
Last week, (10/26/11) I saw my doctor for the first time in 5 weeks. Nurse T went through the routine again - urine test, blood pressure (105/68), weight ---YIKES---Little A isn't so little anymore. Well, maybe it's me who isn't so little; let's just say we have officially hit the 30 pound mark in this pregnancy and I still have the holidays to get through.
Dr. V came into the room and talked about how I was feeling. I told him about all the heartburn I have; yes, I even have heartburn after eating a banana. I think Dr. V was surprised by this but it is the honest truth. Of course the old wives tale says, "A lot of heartburn in pregnancy means a lot of hair at birth." In Little A's case - he better come out a monkey! Just kidding...
Dr. V measured my uterus - we're at 31 weeks, which doesn't mean Little A will debut two weeks early, but we'll be closely monitoring my growth. Dr. V asked me if this was going to be my last pregnancy. I said, "Well since I am getting older..." He just laughed! Then, I told him the only way I would be pregnant again is for my IPs.
Then Nurse T came in and said my glucose was a little elevated! What?!? Dr. V wasn't worried, but asked me what I had for lunch. Oops! Wasn't I suppose to eat that vanilla shake? MMM...maybe I'll go get another one now.
Finally, at the end of the appointment he reminded me that it was time for my RhoGam injection. This is an injection to help me form antibodies against the baby since I am Rh Negative. Nurse T made an appointment for me on the 27th, but before I could go to that - I had to give blood (which was totally unexpected for this appointment). Thankfully, the nurse who drew my blood WAS NOT the same one as last week! This was my "normal" blood nurse. It was quick and painless with no bruising.
The appoinment was over, everything is moving along smoothly and I'll be back on November 16th (32 weeks). Then at 34, 36, 37, 38, 39, & 40 (baby due!!!)

Glucose Testing
At my last doctor's appointment, Dr. V handed me this nice little bottle of orange liquid that would tell him whether or not I have developed gestational diabetes. In my past pregnancies, I've never developed it, but was surprised to have two very large babies that didn't result in c-section deliveries.
Here are some typical symptoms of women with gestational pregnancy diabetes:
Blurred vision, fatigue, increase infections, increased thirst, increased urination (I have this all the time!), nausea and vomiting.
Yesterday, I drank the orange drink - which didn't taste too bad. I remembered previously it being much thicker and nastier, but since Dr. V had me refrigerate it first that helped.
An hour later, I had to haul myself into the lab to have blood drawn. I've been going to the same clinic for almost 8 years now and the nurse pathologist has been the same, until today! I was so surprised to have someone new poking me. I am not fond of needles, especially when they are inexperienced so I was a little nervous. The nurse asked me 3x how to spell my last name before starting. I typically have good veins so it shouldn't be hard for anyone to get the blood, but for some reason, this new nurse decided she needed to dig around just a little. One vial was full and I was on my way. I can't imagine what would've been left on my arm if she needed to fill multilples.
Today I am left with a small bruise and a call from the doctor's office informing me that I do not have gestational diabetes! Yay!
Now, I can move on to the last trimester of the pregnancy with Little A moving around like a boxer. I have my next check-up on the 26th of October where Dr. V and nurse T will check my urine, weight, blood pressure, heartbeat and measure my every growing belly.
Once that is done I believe I'll be going to the doctor every two weeks until I am 36 weeks. Then, it will be every week.
It seems impossible that my IPs, my family, the agency and I are closer to the end of our journey than the beginning. I know my IPs are going to make wonderful daddies and I hope if and when they choose to have another child, they'll think of me to do this again for them.

A View from the Womb
Once upon a time there was a woman with curly hair, just like that of Goldilocks, who carried a child - that's me - for my daddies. She began growing me in April of 2010 and will soon deliver me into their arms, but before we get to that part I'd (yes me, Little A) would like to share with you my view from her womb over the last week.
Let's begin with last Saturday. She and her DH were very hungry, but they couldn't decide what to eat. Now you all know, that I love Mexican, I've been making her eat it a lot over the past few months so I suggested they have more - ok, I really didn't, but I think I had something to do with it. Well they went to a local Mexican place for dinner where my Goldilocks ordered a vegetarian meal. She ate some chips and salsa prior to her main meal too. Once she started eating she began feeling a little uneasy. It could've been because I was punching and kicking her the entire time, trying to get her to have more salsa. There was one cheese enchilada on the plate with red sauce, and I knew as soon as she started that first bite that our night was going to take a turn for the worse. She immediately got sick and had to run to the bathroom! What was going on I thought? This has never happened to us - I love Mexican! She returned to the table feeling a little better, but wouldn't eat anymore. So here I was, in the womb, still wanting chips and salsa and not really sure how to communicate it to her without jabbing her again.
We all left the restaurant and returned home for a long night. Her stomach, which is right next to my womb, was churning and making these horrible noises all night long. Therefor, I couldn't sleep. I kept moving around and around, but finally nestled into a cozy spot, and we both fell asleep.
On Another Note...
I love my womb, but boy is there something close to me that is bothersome. It fills up and deflates often and wakes me up. I'm not sure what Goldilocks is doing every 2 hours but once she's done I have a lot more space to move around.
There's a loud noise that wakes me up and Goldilocks always switches position after she hears this. I almost feel like she's turning me upside down! Then, I hear this soft, soothing noise. It lasts for a little while then stops.
Everything is quiet until I hear another voice, it must be a little girl that knows Goldilocks. She is really loud. She sings a lot and plays music. I like the music she plays.
My womb doesn't seem to be getting any bigger, but I hope I am.

25 Weeks
Today is another milestone for the little one - he could now survive with assistance from the NICU much easier if he was born today. When my IPs visited, they toured the hospital where we'll deliver and found great comfort in the NICU. It is very well-equipped for babies born early along with knowledgeable doctors and nurses. One of my IPs told me how different the hospitals in France are and how a baby born this early would more than likely not be saved. It's amazing how many are saved now in the U.S. and how they grow and mature into wonderful little people.
Last Friday, the 23rd, I had my 24-week check-up. It was pretty uneventful. I gained 5 pounds, I'm not sure what my running total is now, but I know it's more than my last pregnancy. I am still wearing a couple pairs of my jeans, so I don't feel like I've gained over twenty! My blood pressure was right where it should be and the baby's little heartbeat was pounding away at 140 bpm. He sure is a little squirt! Dr. V had difficulty catching him so we could listen to his heart, Little A was moving around so much! I don't Little A likes it when I lay on my back.
We'll be moving out of the second trimester next week and into my final trimester. The first two have been relatively easy, and I'm hoping the last one is too. I was thinking this morning how the holiday season is approaching and how I usually gain some holiday weight - at least this season, I have an excuse! Little A needs to eat some turkey, pies, and cookies, right?
Lately, my students have started asking more questions about the surrogacy. They are finally realzing, or should I say understanding, that Little A is not biologically my child. It's comical to listen to them sometime. Overall, most of my students feel it is an amazing gift I am giving. I know Little A is a gift - but I'm not giving him to anyone, he is supposed to be here, for my IPs...they are going to be wonderful parents!

I know Little A is a gift - but I'm not giving him to anyone, he is supposed to be here, for my IPs...they are going to be wonderful parents!

Banana Boy
Banana boy has been extremely active - at night! I think he's already starting to prepare for the time difference when he moves from my womb to Paris. Over the weekend he woke me up twice around 2:00 AM - which is 9:00 AM in Paris - it felt like he was doing somersaults. After about twenty minutes, he calmed down enough so I could sleep.
My neighbor has been keeping an "eye" on my bump. When I first returned from Chicago in July she said, "Wow! You've popped out!" Since then, she's watched closely to see if I've grown at all. Each week...nope you look the same. LOL Honestly I think it is my clothing - but this last Friday, she said, "Oh yeah, I see it now...he's a growing!" I wish I could remember what I was wearing that day because I have been feeling huge everyday for awhile. I even measured my waist, well what once was my waist, and it has grown 11 inches since becoming pregnant.
Any guesses on how big my waist will get?
Banana boy is still sitting very low too. I have been able to get 2 1/2 hours stretches of sleep in recently compared to 1 before - my bladder is going to have a huge dent in it once he's born.
I'm not sure what vegetable or fruit he'll be compared to tomorrow, but I'm sure it's a big one! My IPs told me their ED is 6 feet tall and the IP is 6ft 3in, so he's going to be long...here's hoping his feet don't get stuck under my ribs!
